iThought: A Guided Journal on Expectation, Obedience, and the Miracle You Almost Missed
What if the biggest thing standing between you and what God wants to do isn’t your problem, but your expectation of how He should solve it?
Naaman had the position. The reputation. The influence. The resources. He looked like a man who had everything together.
But he had leprosy.
So when Naaman went looking for a miracle, he already had an idea of what that miracle should look like. Who should deliver it. How it should happen. What God should do.
Then God did something completely different.
Two simple words nearly caused Naaman to walk away:
“I thought…”
iThought is a guided journal that walks with Naaman through 2 Kings 5:1–15 and invites you to examine the expectations, assumptions, pride, disappointments, and acts of obedience that are shaping your own story. It’s a journey about expectation, obedience, and the miracle you almost missed.
Through six intentional movements—The Armor and the But, The Voice You Didn’t Expect, The Wrong Address, I Thought, Dip Seven, and Now I Know—you’ll confront what you’ve been hiding, consider voices you may have dismissed, recognize where you’ve been looking for answers in the wrong places, and wrestle with what happens when God’s instructions don’t match the plan you had in mind.
Each section combines Scripture, short teaching, honest reflection questions, hands-on activities, personal journaling, prayer, and space to process what God may be showing you. The activities are designed to make the story personal—from identifying what’s hiding beneath your “armor” to comparing the voices you listen to and confronting the expectations you may need to surrender.
Because Naaman’s breakthrough didn’t come when God finally met his expectations.
It came when Naaman finally surrendered them.
He had to keep dipping when nothing seemed to be happening. He had to obey an instruction that seemed too simple for the size of his problem. And he discovered that the miracle wasn’t merely about changing his circumstances. God was changing him.
Maybe you’ve prayed, waited, planned, worked, and wondered why God isn’t doing things the way you thought He would.
Maybe the question isn’t whether God is working.
Maybe it’s whether you’re willing to follow Him when His way looks nothing like yours.
Drop the expectations. Take the next step. Dip again.
The miracle you’ve been asking for may be on the other side of an obedience you almost talked yourself out of.
