Beggar to Believer: A Guided Journal on Identity, Faith, and the Courage to Ask

What if the name you’ve been living under isn’t the name Jesus has for you?

Bartimaeus was known as a blind beggar.

Every day, he sat beside the road. People passed him. They saw his condition. They knew his circumstances. They knew what he did.

But then Jesus came by.

And Bartimaeus refused to stay where everyone expected him to stay.

He cried out for mercy. When the crowd told him to be quiet, he shouted louder. When Jesus called him, Bartimaeus threw off the coat that identified him as a beggar before he had any evidence that his circumstances were about to change. Then Jesus asked him one powerful question:

“What do you want me to do for you?”

Beggar to Believer is a guided journal that walks alongside Bartimaeus through Mark 10:46–52 and invites you to bring your own story with you. It is a journey through identity, faith, and the courage to ask.

Through six intentional movements—The Beggar’s Corner, The Cry for Mercy, Shouted Louder, The Coat Comes Off, What Do You Want?, and Your Faith Has Healed You—you’ll examine the labels you’ve accepted, what you’re really asking God for, the voices that have convinced you to stay quiet, what you may need to leave behind, and what it means to get up and follow Jesus.

This isn’t simply a journal with blank pages. Each section combines Scripture, short teaching, honest reflection questions, hands-on activities, personal journaling, prayer, and space to process your own story. The goal isn’t to rush through the pages. It’s to slow down long enough to let Bartimaeus’s story challenge yours.

Because sometimes the greatest thing keeping us on the side of the road isn’t our circumstances.

It’s the identity we’ve learned to live with.

Bartimaeus threw off the coat that marked him as a beggar before he could see. His circumstances hadn’t changed yet, but something inside him had. Sometimes faith means letting go of an old identity before you have evidence of what comes next.

And when Bartimaeus received what he had asked for, he didn’t return to his old corner.

He got up and followed Jesus.

Maybe it’s time to identify the corner you’ve settled into.

Maybe it’s time to get specific about what you really need.

Maybe it’s time to stop listening to the crowd.

Maybe it’s time to throw off the coat.

You don’t have to stay where your story started.

Get up. Leave the old identity behind. And walk from beggar to believer.
